Let me tell you about the first time that I was made redundant.

For about 10 years, I’d been working hard in the actuarial field and financial services industry.

Yes, numbers. Snooze.

But I got sick.

Something called Sarcoidosis.

It’s when abnormal nodules infiltrate tissues (often in the lungs) and adversely affect body functions.

I won’t give all the gruesome details (it was a long time ago), but here’s the long and short of it…

I couldn’t work for nearly two years.

And when I returned…

I was made redundant.

Ouch, right?

We all encounter challenges and setback in our careers. You’ve probably had your own fair share.

Here are 5 things I learned from my own career transition journey:

  • It’s great to do work that you think matters
  • Career change challenges your work identity and involves reinvention
  • Straddling ‘two worlds’ as you transition is uncomfortable
  • It’s hard letting go and chasing new work goals, without any guarantee of success, and
  • Career change involves at least one person taking a punt on you

*****

But redundancy is just one type of career disruption.

My purpose is to help people – just like you – thrive, despite the inevitable the ups and downs of their careers.

I consider it a great privilege to help executives:

  • Frame their offers to employers
  • Create impressive self-marketing collateral
  • Execute strategic search campaigns that generate interviews, and
  • Ace advanced recruitment selection processes

Thanks for taking the time to learn about my career journey!
